Gender Confirming Healthcare
Since 2012, the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) has offered a “Transgender Benefit” to SHIP plan enrollees. This is available at all three AZ universities and was passed due to advocacy efforts originating at the UA.
The ABOR SHIP’s “Transgender Benefit” affords students critical access to medically necessary, gender-confirming health care. This access to care is a crucial element to the health, academic success and retention of transgender-identified students.
Depending on where you are at in the process of transitioning, you can navigate this benefit in different ways. Check out the Campus Health Website for more details and read the Aetna Clinical Policy Bulletin here.

The CoE is currently implementing four major programs for the transgender community with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Endowment, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). More program areas are under development and as those are implemented they will be added to their website.
